This Easy Masala Chai Mix is a blend of warm aromatic spices, so easy to prepare and perfect to add to your cakes, porridges or cookies, or to drink as tea. Also, it’s the quickest way of making the Oat Coffee Masala Latte, the ideal drink for your autumn and winter days!
What is Masala?
Masala is simply the Indian word for “spices”, and is usually the term used for a mixture of warm spices like cardamom, ginger or cinnamon. This spice mix is widely used in Indian cuisine, from drinks to curries and lentil dishes to soups. You can use this Masala Mix to make my Oat Coffee Masala Latte, by mixing it with oat milk, and a little bit of decaf coffee. If you use tea instead, you’ll have the so popular Masala Chai Latte!
What spices are in the Masala mix?
The Masala mixture is made with a variety of different spices, and each family and region has their own combination. Even so, there are a few spices that are present in almost every Masala mixture:
Cinnamon, to add a wooden and sweet flavour.
Ginger, adds spiciness and warmness.
Cardamom, that’s zesty and herbal.
Pepper, that adds spice and woodiness.
Cloves, sweet but slightly bitter!
Star anise, very sweet and licorice-like, adds richness.
Nutmeg, so earthy and deep.
Using my favourite spices of the bunch, I’ve whipped up my favourite Masala mix, that I’ve been using in my Masala Coffe or Tea Lattes. If you want to learn how I make my Oat Coffee Masala Latte, you can find the detailed recipe here.
